TRAINING ACADEMY
Academy Training Overview
Depending on the position you apply for, your academy path will differ. Deputy Sheriff Trainees and Correctional Officers each attend a separate, fully sponsored academy — with all expenses, wages, and uniforms covered from day one.
Deputy Sheriff Trainee Academy
Location: Southbay Regional Public Safety Training Center
Our Deputy Sheriff Trainees attend a full-time, ~6-month POST-certified academy held Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Recruits train in Criminal Law, Patrol Procedures, Defensive Tactics, Firearms, Ethics, Community Policing, Traffic Enforcement, First Aid/CPR, and more — plus a rigorous physical fitness program.

Correctional Officer Academy
Location: Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department
Correctional Officer recruits complete the Stanislaus County ACO Academy — an intensive 6-week program held Tuesday through Friday, 7:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. Academies run four times a year, beginning in February, May, August, and October. Recruits receive comprehensive instruction in all aspects of corrections alongside a rigorous physical fitness and defensive tactics program to prepare for the demands of the job.

- California Criminal Justice System, Professionalism & Ethics, Communication, and Cultural Awareness
- Facility Security, Maintaining Security, Booking, Receiving & Releasing, and Supervising Offenders
- Classification of Offenders, Emergency Procedures, Transportation, and Behavioral Health
- Report Writing & Record-keeping, and Testifying in Court
- Defensive Tactics and Physical Fitness training
- CPR Certification, Chemical Agents, and Pepper Ball Certification
